UT Recycling will hold its annual Paper Purge Party March 10 through 14. During the event, UT Recycling employees will come to campus offices to collect unwanted bulky paper for the 2014 RecycleMania competition.

All forms of paper are accepted, including hardback books, journals, paper with tape or staples, and spiral notebooks.

“We really want to change the mindset about what kind of paper can be recycled,” said Recycling Manager Jay Price. “It isn’t just loose-leaf paper.”

In previous years, the paper collection event was held during spring break, but this year it is taking place a week before the break to include as many faculty and staff as possible.

“Last year we collected 20,000 pounds of paper,” Price said. “I would love if we could collect 30,000 this year.”

Building occupants are asked to sort through their paper in advance and to set their paper bin outside their office if they will be away.

To aid in their efforts, Recycling is seeking help from those who would like to be their building’s representative during the collection. For those interested in becoming a representative, contact Bea Ross at bross13@utk.edu.

Event organizers also ask for building occupants to help by being prepared in advance of their designated pickup day.

Please e-mail UT Recycling at recycle@utk.edu for extra containers or help, or to schedule a specific time for pickup.
