The College of Communication and Information will name a classroom in honor of CCI alumna Hilda Murray, an accomplished entrepreneur and business executive.

A brief ceremony, part of the CCI Board of Visitors spring meeting, will take place from noon to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 7, in Room 309 of the Communications Building. A plaque honoring Murray, which will hang outside the classroom, will be unveiled at the ceremony.

The dedication of the classroom marks the establishment of the Hilda S. Murray CCI Enrichment Fund, which will be used to improve and renovate CCI’s building and classrooms. The Hilda S. Murray Endowed Scholarship is also being created through a legacy gift pledge.

“Support of alumni such as Hilda Murray is critical to the growth and development of CCI and its students,” said Mike Wirth, dean of CCI. “Hilda’s commitment to CCI and UT means students will have better classrooms, upgraded technology, and an overall better educational experience. I can’t thank her enough for her generosity.”

Murray graduated with a bachelor’s degree in advertising in 1976, and she used her education to help expand TPC Packaging, her family’s specialty printing and packaging business that was started in 1924. In addition, she founded Greener Planet LLC, an environmental compliance consultant to the packaging and printing industry.

Murray, a native of Chattanooga, is a member of CCI’s Board of Visitors. She participates in several committees and advisory boards in the Chattanooga community and is interested in issues related to education, health, and children’s early intervention and prevention programs. She is also interested in the arts and has a collection of unusual—but inexpensive—pieces.
