UT to Host Collegiate A Cappella Regional February 8

The community is invited to come enjoy some friendly competition and music at UT Saturday, February 8, as nine collegiate a cappella groups vie for the chance to advance to the national stage.

UT will host the quarterfinal contest of the International Competition of Collegiate A Cappella. The 7 p.m. event will be in the Sandra G. Powell Recital Hall of UT’s Natalie L. Haslam Music Center, 1741 Volunteer Boulevard.

UT’s all-women’s a cappella group, reVOLution, also will compete.

Collegiate contemporary a cappella ensembles are student-run and -directed singing groups that perform entirely without instruments.

Tickets are $12 for students and $15 for general admission. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the Ticket Alternative or the Varsity Vocals websites.

“We are very excited to have been chosen to host this competition,” said Angela Batey, director of choral activities in the UT School of Music.

Contestants who win Saturday will advance to the national semifinals round.

In addition to UT’s reVOLution, other competitors are AcaFelons from Gardner-Webb University, Gemini Blvd. from the University of Central Florida, Harmonic Notion from Vanderbilt University, Melodores from Vanderbilt University, Squawkappella from Salisbury University, the Beltones from Belmont University, the Cleftomaniacs from the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, and the Stilettos from the University of Maryland.
