Faculty Appreciation Week has been set for February 10-14, and the Tennessee Teaching and Learning Center is sponsoring a free luncheon workshop on flipped classrooms on Wednesday, February 12.

“Flipping Out at UT: the Pedagogy of Flipped Classrooms” will be presented by center staff along with professors Richard Bennett and Brad Vander Zanden and lecturer Will Schleter, all from the College of Engineering, and Mary Holcomb, associate professor in the College of Business Administration.

A “flipped classroom” is a reversal of traditional teaching methods. Students are introduced to topics by video or other delivered content, thus freeing up class time for activity, discussion, and other applications of learning. This allows the instructor to engage more with students regarding content they may have greater difficulty understanding.

The lunch workshop will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the University Center ballroom.

RSVP online or contact Beth Bigler at bbigler@utk.edu by February 5.
