UT’s Blamey, McKanders, Patterson on “Forty under Forty” List

knoxville-business-journal-100Three UT employees have made the Greater Knoxville Business Journal’s “Forty under Forty” list of young community leaders. They are Ashley Blamey, director of the Safety, Environment and Education Center, Karla McKanders, associate professor of law, and Stacey Patterson, assistant vice president for research and director of research partnerships.

Blamey joined UT as a case management coordinator in 2008. She is a licensed master social worker working toward her doctorate. As SEE Center director, she develops and manages programs on prevention of sexual assault and alcohol and substance abuse, as well as other safety, health, and wellness initiatives.

McKanders, who began working at UT in 2008, teaches courses in refugee law and international humanitarian law. She directs the Immigration Clinic, where she works with law students to offer free legal assistance on immigration matters. McKanders also serves as a fellow at UT’s Center for the Study of Social Justice in the Migration and Refugee Studies group.

Patterson is helping oversee the Cherokee Farm project, a 188-acre development overlooking the Tennessee River that will house sixteen research-oriented building sites when completed.
