College of Business Names Director of Diversity and Community Relations
The College of Business Administration has named Tyvi Small director of its newly created Office of Diversity and Community Relations.
Small, who joined UT in 2007, has been instrumental in recruiting, developing, and supporting a diverse student population within the college, founding the college’s Business Education for Talented Students (BETS) program, mentoring students, and starting student associations and programs.
“This new office will continue to support all of the programs begun during Tyvi’s time as coordinator of diversity initiatives,” said Tom Ladd, the college’s associate dean of research and technology. “Under Tyvi’s leadership, the center will take a more expanded role in faculty and staff recruitment, work with the college’s development office and engage the broader business community.”
Small said he’s excited about working with the college’s executive committee on faculty and staff recruitment and ensuring that the college has a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
“I am also enthused about the opportunities to engage our corporate and community partners as we seek to get them more involved in the college,” Small said.
Prior to joining UT, Small worked for the city of West Palm Beach, Florida, as an education coordinator in the mayor’s office. He helped develop and implement outreach programs that partnered the local school district with higher education, neighborhood associations, nonprofit organizations, and business and community agencies. He also worked with the University of South Florida, Tampa, Office of Undergraduate Admissions as both a senior admission counselor and admission counselor for multicultural recruitment and scholarships.
Small received his bachelor’s degree in communication and Master of Education degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of South Florida; he currently is earning his doctorate in higher education administration from UT.
