School has been out for weeks in Knox County, but some students are still attending class in a unique program called Community Schools. The initiative started four years ago in Knox County Schools through a partnership with the UT College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences.  This year, the summer program is being held at Pond Gap Elementary School. The program has helped students make academic gains in math and reading. During the summer, students also are exposed to art, music, and exercise programs and they also receive two meals. WBIR-TV Channel 10 featured the Community Schools program in this story.
