Help Knoxville College Win Home Depot’s ‘Retool Your School’ Grant

UT’s neighbor Knoxville College is in the running for a Home Depot Retool Your School Campus Improvement Grant. The university has a long history of collaboration with the college through outreach efforts and collaborative academic initiatives, and Big Orange Country has a chance to help make an impact on their campus.

The Retool Your School grant program awards grants to Historically Black Colleges and Universities to help restore and improve their campuses. This year, in addition to one $50,000 Tier I grant and one $25,000 Campus Pride Grant, Home Depot will offer twelve Tier II grant awards, each for the amount of $10,000.

Projects must emphasize plans for renewal and also demonstrate sustainable, eco-friendly principles. Knoxville College wants to upgrade its College Gymnasium, athletic courts, and the Performing Arts Building, as well as landscaping, outdoor lighting, and the parking area at the Performing Arts Building.

“We have a unique opportunity to give back in a way that will help Knoxville College restore their campus,” said Carolyn Hodges, vice provost and dean of the graduate school. “It’s part of their overall goal to enhance the quality education they have always sought to provide and to stress diversity and service to the public. This is an excellent way for us to show our commitment to civility and community by helping the college win this competition for resources to retool the school. I encourage everyone to invite family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors to cast a vote for Knoxville College.”

There are two ways to vote for the college in the competition.

  • Visit the Retool Your School website and find Knoxville College on the list of schools. They are currently in fourth place. Click on their name and confirm your vote.
  • Tweet your vote using the hashtag #knoxcollegeRYS2013.

You can vote once each day from each of your devices. Voting ends Monday, April 15.
