Subject: Open Enrollment for New Optional Group Term Life Insurance

As part of the new contract between the state of Tennessee and Minnesota Life, employees are being offered a one-time open enrollment opportunity now to enroll or increase coverage in the Optional Group Term Life Insurance program. Everyone who previously had Unum coverage has been transferred to Minnesota Life and can take advantage of this opportunity to increase coverage. Eligible employees not already participating in the Optional Group Term Life Insurance program may enroll during this one-time open enrollment period.

A letter and information about the open enrollment was sent by Minnesota Life to all full-time employees’ home addresses between March 25 and April 1.

Online enrollment will be available between April 15 and 28. If you have questions or did not receive a letter, please contact your campus insurance office. If you need help enrolling, Minnesota Life’s Customer Service Center is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CDT at 1-866-881-0631.

The one-time open enrollment opportunity is as follows:

  • Employees: up to five times annual base salary to a maximum of $500,000 (seven times is available but with proof of good health)
  • Spouses under age 55: up to $30,000
  • Spouses age 55 and over: up to $15,000
  • Children: $5,000 or $10,000

Coverage is guaranteed for employees without having to provide proof of good health. All full-time employees are eligible for this open enrollment even if you are not currently participating in the Optional Group Term Life Insurance program. However, any employee who was previously declined for coverage by Minnesota Life may re-apply by submitting proof of good health and will be prompted to complete Evidence of Insurability online at the same time as enrollment.
