We are making some changes to help improve the use of our campus calendar.
Beginning April 1, Tennessee Today will have a new policy for those wishing to submit events to appear in the @Tennessee section in the right-hand column of the Tennessee Today e-mail newsletter.
On that date, members of the campus community will be required to first submit their events to the Campus Event Calendar in order for them to appear in the Tennessee Today e-mail. This effort is in part to encourage the campus community to better utilize the campus calendar as a resource for publicizing campus events. Events may be submitted online.
This is a powerful communications tool that can be used in a variety of ways. The Campus Event Calendar also is capable of publishing event information on university department pages to target your audience and displaying more information about individual events than the @Tennessee section of the Tennessee Today e-mail. Events in the Campus Event Calendar also appear in the university’s smartphone app.
When submitting events to the calendar and/or the e-mail, please keep the following guidelines in mind:
- Events listed on the Campus Event Calendar and in Tennessee Today must be sponsored by university faculty, staff, students, academic departments, administrative units, or university-recognized clubs or interest groups, and serve the overall education and public service mission of the university.
- Events should be submitted to the calendar and the Tennessee Today newsletter at least three days in prior to the event.
- When submitting your event, include a message to the calendar administrators in the area provided that you would like your event to be considered for the Tennessee Today e-mail. Please note that this does not guarantee that your event will appear in the newsletter, but that the Tennessee Today editors will make every effort to accommodate your request.
On Wednesday, March 27, staff from the Office of Communications and Marketing will host a workshop on how to use the campus calendar to promote your event. The one-hour session will meet at 3:00 p.m. in Room 402 of the Haslam Business Building. No reservation is required, but seating is limited.
