Margie-Morrison

Margaret Morrison, professor and director of the School of Advertising and Public Relations, has passed away.

Morrison served as director since July 2012. She was interim director of the school since late 2011. She joined the UT faculty in 1995 and completed her doctoral degree in advertising from the University of Georgia the following year.

“Margie was a wonderful friend, colleague, and teacher in our college,” said Mike Wirth, dean of the College of Communication and Information. “Words are inadequate to express the sorrow that we all feel.”

Morrison taught courses in media planning, creative strategy, and advertising campaigns. She won the college’s teaching award in 1996 and 1999.

Prior to her academic career, Morrison worked as an audience research analyst with MTV Networks. She also served as a consultant for the US Department of Justice.

A celebration of Morrison’s life will be held on Sunday, March 17, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Laurel Theater, 1538 Laurel Avenue, Knoxville. Memorial gifts may be made to the “Dr. Margie Morrison Legacy Fund” at the College of Communication and Information, 302 Communications Building, 1345 Circle Park Drive, Knoxville, TN 37996.
