Tennessee has seen an 11.5 percent overall growth in population since 2000. The older population in the state also has increased 21.3 percent since then, outpacing the nation.
These and other demographic trends can be examined through several free resources being offered to the media and interested residents by the State Data Center, based at UT.
The data center has released Tennessee at a Glance, 2010, a book that profiles each county in the state using data from the 2010 census and 2006-2010 American Community Survey. The profile provides details including each county’s population, growth, median household income, median home value, and the percentage of high school and college graduates. The information is available here (pdf).
The data provided in Tennessee at a Glance, 2010 from the American Community Survey allow updated information each year permitting comparisons across Tennessee counties.
The data center is also offering the second annual Tennessee population forecast, which may be found here. It is downloadable as an interactive Excel spreadsheet.
“The data provide policymakers, researchers, businesses, state and local government officials, and all interested data users access to current data so that better-informed decisions can be made,” said Bill Fox, director of the UT Center for Business and Economic Research, where the data center is housed.
