Potential law school applicants in East Tennessee are invited to attend a Law School Admission Workshop and Recruitment Fair on Wednesday, September 5, at the College of Law.

The workshop is free and no preregistration is necessary.

“Anyone considering law as a career and wants to know more about the law school admissions process should attend,” said Karen R. Britton, director of admissions and financial aid at The Bettye B. Lewis Career Center in the College of Law.

Scheduled activities include:

  • Admission Workshop, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Carolyn P. Brown Memorial University Center, Shiloh Room—Panelists will discuss how undergraduates can prepare for law school, the law school admission process, the LSAT, financing a legal education, and job market information for recent graduates. Britton will lead this session with Catherine Anderson Patterson, assistant director of the College of Arts & Sciences Advising Services.
  • Q & A with Admissions Officers, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. University Center, Shiloh Room—Prospective students can talk about the admission process and seek advice during a UT-moderated panel discussion featuring admissions officers from public and private law schools from Alabama, Charleston, Cincinnati and Kentucky.
  • Recruitment Fair, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., College of Law Commons and Rotunda—Admissions representatives from law schools across the Southeast will meet with prospective students. In addition to UT, law schools represented include the University of Alabama, Belmont University, Charleston School of Law, University of Cincinnati, Emory University, Georgia State University, the University of Kentucky, Lincoln Memorial University, Louisiana State University, the University of Memphis, Mercer University, Mississippi College, the University of Mississippi, Nashville School of Law, the University of Richmond, Samford University, the University of South Carolina, Stetson University, Vanderbilt University, Wake Forest University, and Washington & Lee University.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to learn how to apply to law school and to meet face to face with admissions decision makers from UT and other law schools in the Southeast,” Britton said.

UT Phi Alpha Delta President Amanda Ensing encourages students who are thinking about law school to participate.

“The recruitment fair is the premier event on campus for students planning to apply to law school. It’s as useful for freshmen and sophomores who think law school might be in their future as well as for seniors who will apply this fall,” she said. “I have attended the events since my freshman year, and I feel that they have greatly improved my understanding of the law school admissions process and what it takes to succeed in the legal field.”

The UT College of Law is located at 1505 W. Cumberland Ave., directly across the street from the University Center. Paid parking is available in the Volunteer Hall Garage behind the law school on White Avenue.

This program is sponsored by UT’s College of Law, Arts & Sciences Advising Services, Career Services, and the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Society.
