KNOXVILLE— Living Light, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s solar-powered house, continues its trek across Tennessee and will be at Shelby Farms Park, 500 North Pine Lake Drive, Memphis, from April 10 to May 30.
This is part of a multi-city tour to teach children, industry professionals, and homeowners about cutting-edge sustainable science, technology, and design.
The Living Light House will be open for public tours Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. Additional tours may be arranged at livlight@utk.edu.
Living Light is a functioning energy-efficient, solar-powered house that competed at the 2011 US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon. The house placed eighth overall in the competition, and earned high marks in the areas of architecture, energy-efficiency, and engineering.
Visitors to the UT exhibit may also explore the surrounding Shelby Farms Park, one of the largest urban-centered parks in the nation. Shelby Farms features wildlife, 4,500 acres of green space, and 6.5 miles of walking and equestrian trails.

April 10-May 30: Living Light Architectural Model and Exhibit at the American Institute of Architects office in downtown Memphis, 511 South Main Street.
April 10-11: Feature as part of the Tennessee Valley Solar Solutions Conference, Shelby Farms.
April 21: United States Green Building Council Memphis Membership Event and Tours at the Living Light House.
April 21: Down to Earth Festival at Shelby Farms. Special Living Light tours available for event.
April 22: Earth Day Fun Run at Shelby Farms and day-long tours at Living Light House.
May 17: American Institute of Architects Memphis and US Green Building Council Memphis continuing education presentation and luncheon.
Living Light moves to Memphis from Nashville, where more than 3,000 adults and students visited the home during its month-long stay at Centennial Park. Since its completion in September 2011, Living Light has been seen by about 30,000 people during its stops in Washington DC, Knoxville, and Nashville.
