KNOXVILLE—The Culinary Institute at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will graduate its fourteenth class of students and commemorate the event with a “cake-off” contest on Friday, March 23.

As part of students’ finals, they bake cakes from scratch and decorate them using a theme of their choice. The class theme is “Simply Spring.”

The cakes will be displayed, judged, and eaten at the graduation, which will be at the UT Visitors Center near Neyland Drive and Kingston Pike.

The cake judging will take place at 6:30 p.m. Judges will include Knoxville-based Heather Grubb, a recent cast member on TLC’s Cake Boss: Next Great Baker reality show.

The graduation ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m. Students must go through a ten-month series of classes before they are eligible to graduate.

The Culinary Institute offers a certificate program and provides participants skills necessary to be culinarians in the hospitality industry.
