Jay Whelan, head of the Department of Cellular and Molecular Nutrition, spoke with ABCNews.com about new research that suggest a daily aspirin may cut your risk of cancer. Whelan advised aspirin may interfere with the processes in the body that cause tumors to grow. “Aspirin also probably works in ways that we don’t quite understand,” he said. “We don’t know the mechanism, and it is very difficult to make a blanket public health statement without knowing the mechanism. While this backs everything up, I think people should consult their physicians.”
