KNOXVILLE—Bing West, former assistant secretary of defense under President Ronald Reagan, will speak at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, on March 13.

West, an author and blogger, will deliver a 5:00 p.m. lecture in the Hermitage Room of the University Center. A meet-and greet will be held at 4:00 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.

A former Marine, West has written several books, including The Village, and won numerous awards for his writings. His most recent book, Wrong War: Grit, Strategy and the Way Out of Afghanistan, focuses on a proactive strategy for Americans to exit the war.

West’s talk, titled “War and Defense in 2012 and Beyond” will focus on national defense and foreign policy.

The Center for the Study of War and Society and the Department of History are sponsoring the event.
