The groundbreaking research of Justin Boyles, a post-doctoral research associate in ecology and evolutionary biology, was featured yet again. This time it is in the Washington Post. Boyles helped uncover the link between the fungus, Geomyces destructans, and White Nose Syndrome, a disease that has killed more than a million bats in North America. The article calls the fungus athlete’s foot on steroids and discusses what would happen to the U.S.’s environment and economy if the bats continue to die.
