Knoxville — The twenty-fourth annual Orange and Blue Blood Drive, a competition between Tennessee fans and Kentucky fans, will be held November 14–18.

Medic Regional Blood Center is calling on all UT faculty, staff, and students to donate blood to help Tennessee fans out-give Kentucky. Last year the Cats won the competition.

“The blood collected during this competition will help ensure adequate inventory for our area hospitals throughout the holiday season when donations are typically at their lowest,” said Christi Fightmaster, Medic spokesperson.

Students, faculty, and staff who donate during the drive will receive a free T-shirt, a free sandwich from Hardee’s and a free cholesterol screening and will be entered into a drawing to win two skybox tickets and two pre-game sideline passes to the UT–Vanderbilt football game on November 19.

“The battle of Tennessee versus Kentucky is not just on the football field,” said UT head football coach Derek Dooley. “The Orange and Blue Blood Drive is a competition that saves lives. For those dedicated Vol fans who already bleed orange, do it for a great cause. Donate blood and save a life.”

During the competition, Medic will be set up inside Rooms 223 and 224 at the Carolyn P. Brown University Center, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. In addition, donors can visit the following campus drive locations:

Tuesday, November 15:

  • Noon to 8:00 p.m., South Carrick Hall, inside lobby
  • 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Neyland Stadium, Gate 21

Wednesday, November 16:

  • Noon to 8 p.m., Hess Hall, inside lobby

Thursday, November 17:

  • 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Hollingsworth Auditorium

Daily score updates will be posted on Medic’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/medicblood. A not-for-profit blood center, Medic was established in 1958. Medic is the only blood collector and supplier for twenty-one counties and twenty-seven area hospitals.
