KNOXVILLE – Calling all budding entrepreneurs. The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, wants to help turn your business idea into reality.
Starting October 4, UT’s Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI) in the College of Business Administration will offer students, faculty, and the community the chance to learn from entrepreneurs, financiers, and business experts about what it takes to start a business.
“Vol Court” is a seven-part weekly series that runs through November 15. Sessions will be held Tuesdays at 5:15 p.m. in Room 701 of the Stokely Management Center.
The last workshop will be a pitch competition where teams present an idea to a panel of judges for a $1,000 cash prize.
Students who attend “Vol Court” will be better prepared for the campus-wide Undergraduate Business Plan Competition to be held in the spring.
This year’s schedule is as follows:
- October 4: What it’s Like to be an Entrepreneur
- October 11: Identifying Customers and Solving Their Problems
- October 18: Generating a Product Idea
- Oct 25: How to Make Money
- November 1: How to Find Funding
- November 8: How to Pitch Your Idea to Investors
- November 15: Idea Pitch Competition

The Anderson CEI facilitates entrepreneurial knowledge creation and dissemination through research, teaching, and practice. The center develops entrepreneurial talent who will start businesses or contribute to the success of existing technology-driven businesses.
It also provides experiential learning activities that enhance classroom instruction, connects the regional entrepreneurial community with the university, and acts as a hub for cross-campus initiatives that foster the growth of entrepreneurial research and commercially viable enterprises. Through its various activities, the center contributes to regional economic growth.
