Associate Dean of Libraries Linda Phillips to Retire
Her retirement is effective August 31.
She served as interim dean last academic year during the search for the libraries’ new chief.
The campus is invited to a reception in her honor on Tuesday, September 6, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Black Cultural Center.
Phillips began her thirty-five-year career at UT Libraries as head of reference in the Hodges Undergraduate Library. It closed for expansion in 1984.
Over the years Phillips headed the libraries’ departments of science and technology, cooperative information services, networked services, and collection development.
As the first head of scholarly communication, beginning in 2008, she promoted open access, raised campus awareness of scholarly publishing issues, and co-chaired the university committee on scholarly communication. She pioneered the libraries’ peer-reviewed digital imprint, Newfound Press, and the university’s online institutional repository, Trace.
