UT alumnus Mark Dean is making news by forecasting the decline of the personal computer. Dean is also IBM’s Middle East and Africa chief technology officer. He made the call in a company blog post. Dean is one of the dozen engineers who designed the original IBM PC, which celebrated its 30th anniversary on Friday. He writes, “When I helped design the PC, I didn’t think I’d live long enough to witness its decline. But, while PCs will continue to be much-used devices, they’re no longer at the leading edge of computing.”
