KNOXVILLE—Local companies have tremendous technology resources and services to help them grow and enhance their efficiency available right in their own back yard. An event at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will show companies how to access them.

The 2011 Innovation Valley Technology and Resource Showcase will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, in the James A. Haslam Business Building. The showcase will be hosted by the Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in UT’s College of Business Administration.

The showcase will feature representatives from the university and college, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and the Y-12 National Security Complex, explaining how local companies can access their technologies and services.

Local companies that have successfully engaged with these organizations will present case studies of how the process worked for them, along with the results. Financial and training service providers also will provide information about what they can do to help local businesses. An exhibit area will allow participants to interact with presenters.

“This event is a great example of how local organizations are collaborating to improve economic development in our region,” said Joy Fisher, managing director for the event.  “We are creating opportunities for growth and potential job creation by connecting businesses with new technologies emerging from our premier research institutions, along with services that can improve their productivity. This will help us keep our best and brightest graduates right here in the Knoxville area.”

This event is held annually by Innovation Valley Inc., a public-private partnership that is implementing an economic development plan in the counties surrounding the Knoxville–Oak Ridge technology corridor. Sponsors for the event are the Anderson Center, Pathway Lending, and the UT Center for Industrial Services.
