KNOXVILLE — Soles4Souls, the international charity famous for distributing shoes to the needy around the world, will be visiting the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, campus as part of its 2011 RV Tour on Tuesday, April 5.

Soles4Souls, along with Footwear News, will be taking its message of hope through shoes to more than 50 campuses across the country with the Soles4Souls/Footwear News 2011 University RV Tour, exploring the country and raising awareness for the millions of children who contract illness and disease due to the lack of proper footwear.

“We are so proud to be partnering with Soles4Souls for the second year in a row,” said Marc Berger, publisher for Footwear News. “Today’s college generation is passionate about making a difference and during the Soles4Souls/Footwear News 2011 University RV Tour, we’ll be able to engage thousands of young people across the country to make a real charitable impact and contribution.”

The RV Tour, with lead sponsor Zodiac USA™, a brand of Brown Shoe Company, Inc., co-sponsored by Minnetonka, Asics, Jellypop, Yellow Box and Michael Antonio Footwear Group, started touring on March 1 at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. The tour will roll through campuses throughout the Southeast this spring and continue in the fall.

The RV Tour team will be updating their locations on each of the campuses on the tour website http://www.giveshoes.org/rvtour and through their Twitter account http://www.twitter.com/s4srvtour.

Students at participating institutions will be able to take part in games and giveaways and other on-campus events. Each of the sponsors has donated hundreds of pairs of shoes to benefit disadvantaged people in local communities near the select schools. The footwear brand Zodiac USA™ is also hosting a sweepstakes during the tour to win free shoes by visiting http://www.Facebook.com/ZodiacUSA.

“Zodiac USA footwear is excited to help bring the Soles4Souls message to thousands of college students in a way we hope will spread throughout the campuses and beyond,” said Clay Jenkins, Brown Shoe senior vice president-wholesale specialty. “The mobile aspect of the campaign adds a grassroots element and enables us to connect with our consumers across the country.”
