Position Description: Faculty Director
The Office of National Scholarships and Fellowships was established in late 2007 (originally called the Office of External Scholarships) with the mission to encourage, inform and mentor students who wish to apply for nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships. These elite awards include, among others, the Fulbright, Gates-Cambridge, Goldwater, Marshall, Rhodes, Truman and Udall Scholarships. The faculty and staff of the ONSF serve enrolled undergraduates and graduates from all colleges at the University of Tennessee.
This position is a 25%, nine-month administrative appointment with an additional administrative stipend and is open to tenured, associate or full professors. The ONSF reports to the Assistant Provost for Student Success and is staffed by the Faculty Director and an Assistant Director. The duties of the position will include:
* Collaborating with the Assistant Director on the administration of the ONSF
* Serving as the official campus representative for the various scholarship programs
* Meeting with students to discuss opportunities and helping applicants prepare for national competitions
* Recruiting faculty across campus for scholarship review committees
* Implementing an early identification process to recruit students for scholarships
* Communicating with faculty and staff across campus to recruit students for scholarships, and
* Recognizing and promoting students nominated by UT for the prestigious awards
Required qualifications: Doctoral degree or terminal degree and tenured, full or associate professor standing at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Preferred qualifications: Experience in successfully mentoring high-ability students as demonstrated through involvement in the teaching/learning of honors students within a discipline or through interdisciplinary programs, undergraduate research, service learning, and/or academic advising; administrative experience; and scholarly excellence in the candidate’s area of research.
