KNOXVILLE — Music faculty from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will join forces in a special performance to help raise money for the UT School of Music Student Scholarship Fund.
The Tellico Musicale will take place from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Tellico Village Yacht Club in Loudon.
The evening will feature various musical performances. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served and there will be a cash bar. A $60 donation per person is requested by Monday, Aug. 23.
David Brunell, professor of piano, and Greg Tardy, the new assistant professor in jazz saxophone, will join other talented faculty musicians on stage.
Brunell was named by the Metro Pulse as one of the two most memorable soloists of the year. His performance has been described by The Oak Ridger as “explosive, poetic, articulate, lyrical.”
Tardy, a recording artist, is a new assistant professor in the UT School of Music. All About Jazz, a leading jazz music website, notes that “Tardy already has his own voice and is on track to help write the next chapter in jazz history.”
Another highlight performance is the Brasswind Quintet, consisting of music faculty members Cathy Leach on trumpet, T.J. Perry on trumpet, Calvin Smith on horn, Daniel Cloutier on trombone and Sande MacMorran on tuba/euphonium.
School of Music Director Roger Stephens and his wife, Marjorie, a baritone and soprano couple, also will perform and will be assisted by Associate Professor Fay Adams on piano. Roger Stephens has received critical acclaim as an opera performer and stage director. Marjorie Stephens, an associate professor of voice, has been praised for her “rich, sensitive and magical” performances.
Prior to the performance, a student jazz combo will provide additional entertainment.
