In an effort to more effectively accommodate students and make more efficient use of classroom space, the provost’s office has asked a task force of faculty, staff and students to devise several new class timetable options.

Feedback from the UT community is now needed on those options.

To view the task force report and timetable options, visit http://provost.utk.edu/announcements/20100505.shtml. Share your thoughts this month by e-mailing co-chairs Don Cox at dcox@utk.edu or Jennifer Hardy at jhardy11@utk.edu.

Currently, 70 percent of all UT Knoxville classes meet during the “prime-time” hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. During those hours, especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the number of available classrooms dips into single digits.

Timetable changes will expand classroom time choices for students, create greater availability of rooms and allow us to better use existing space.

The provost’s office will use the task force’s work and your feedback to fine-tune a new scheduling plan this summer and announce it in August. The new timetable will be implemented in the fall of 2011.
