KNOXVILLE — Nearly 200 students from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will travel to the Clyde Austin 4-H Camp in Greenville, Tenn., on Friday for the university‚Äôs annual Student Leadership Summit.

The two-day conference will help student leaders enhance their leadership skills through interactions with UT staff, faculty and other students.

Busses will leave campus from the Bus Transit Center located on Phillip Fulmer Way — outside Neyland Stadium Gate 21 — at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, and will return by noon on Saturday. The Student Leadership Summit is open to student leaders who have been nominated by UT Knoxville faculty and staff. There is no fee required to attend.

The Student Leadership Summit focuses on training students to be responsible and contributing leaders by incorporating opportunities for team building and interaction with other student leaders, faculty and senior administrative staff. One of the highlights of the summit is Friday evening’s Open Forum, which allows students to communicate directly with the chancellor and his senior administrative staff.

On Saturday, the summit’s keynote speaker, Mark Emkes, CEO and president of Bridgestone Americas Holding, Inc., will share his experiences and insights regarding leadership.

The retreat also includes discussions on campus sustainability, diversity issues on campus and organizational goal setting. Students will have the opportunity to meet with those in similar positions in other organizations to discuss goals and plans for the remainder of the year.

The Student Leadership Summit is run by the office of Student Orientation & Leadership Development (SOLD). SOLD trains orientation leaders and organizes orientation activities for the start of each academic term. The office also offers resources and programs throughout the year to encourage and prepare student leaders.
