UT Expert: Steven Ripp
Steven Ripp uses genetic engineering to transform microorganisms into biological sensors for environmental pollutants, biosecurity targets, and pathogens related to food safety. Exposures to desired targets are visualized by bioluminescent light produced internally by these living sensor organisms. Other research interests include understanding risks associated with the natural transfer of genes in the environment and environmental impacts of nanotechnology.
