Temperatures are up, and so, likely, are your utility bills. Energy costs can rise significantly during the summer months, when peak demand rates go into effect. Hot summer months create an increased demand for energy consumption, but they also bring increased opportunities for energy cost savings. Energy costs are one of UT’s largest non-personnel expenditures, and there are things we can all do to help conserve energy, and money, as much as possible.
Please adopt and encourage the following energy-saving tips in your office. Some may even make great practices for your home, as well.
- Dress appropriately for the season to minimize the need for cooling.
- Keep doors, windows, shades and blinds closed whenever possible.
- Turn off lights, computers and other electronic devices when not in use.
- Raise temperature settings of window air conditioners at the end of each day.
- Close chemical fume hood sashes when not in use.
- Activate power management features on computers.
