Campus Prepares for Phish Concert June 10
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has made plans to welcome more than 20,000 fans for the popular jam band Phish, who will perform at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, in Thompson Boling Arena. The sold-out concert will bring more than 20,000 guests to campus, affecting traffic and parking.
Many loyal Phish concertgoers will arrive on campus the night of Tuesday, June 9. Overnight and early arrival parking will be available in the parking lots near the soccer field off of Stephenson Drive beginning at 6 p.m. Parking fees will be $25 for RVs and motor homes and $10 for all other vehicles.
Beginning at noon on Wednesday, June 10, The G10 and 11th Street parking garages and parking lots around Fraternity Row will open to concertgoers. Parking in these lots will be $10. Portable restroom facilities will be available throughout designated concert parking areas on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Faculty, staff and student reserved lots will be staffed by Parking Services personnel and will not be available for public parking prior to the end of the workday on Wednesday. Members of the campus and surrounding communities should be aware that university officials anticipate a surge in traffic beginning in the early afternoon continuing through the start of the concert. Lots will open for paid public parking at 5 p.m.
Members of the campus community departing on Wednesday afternoon are encouraged to avoid Lake Loudoun Boulevard and use either Cumberland Avenue or Joe Johnson Drive to exit campus.
Concertgoers should be aware of the following restrictions: Tickets must be shown to enter the ramp and plaza areas around the arena. These areas will open at 5:30 p.m. Arena gates will open at 6 p.m. Absolutely no backpacks or large bags will be allowed on the ramps or plaza, or in the arena itself. Currently no cameras, videotape or unauthorized recording devices will be allowed into the concert.
