Graphic designer Kyle Blue, juror for the 2009 Student Art Competition at the School of Art, will hold a public slide talk at 7 p.m. tonight in Art and Architecture Building Room 109.

Blue serves as the Design Director of Dwell, the first magazine to explore both the interiors and exteriors of modern home design in a stylish yet accessible way. With its focus on a new modernistic approach to design, Dwell offers identity, creativity and harmony.

Blue has led his team through a complete redesign of the periodical, which is now entering its second volume. Before being appointed to his current position, Blue worked as a senior designer for Apple, and earlier held the position of Senior Designer at Dwell. As a Design Fellow at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, he designed several books including Julie Mehretu: Drawing and Painting as well as materials for museum exhibitions and programs.

Blue has also worked for Tenazas Design in San Francisco and was the first intern hired by Knoxville’s Yee Haw Industries. A native of North Carolina and graduate of North Carolina State’s Graphic Design program, Blue now lives and works in San Francisco, CA, where he enjoys fixed gear bicycling.

The talk is free and open to the public. For more info e-mail spangler@utk.edu.
