Native American Leader Visits Campus Wednesday
As part of Native American Heritage Month, Joyce Dugan will be on campus for a lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, in 71 Humanities and Social Sciences Building.
Dugan was the first woman ever elected to the office of Principal Chief for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and she used this role to advocate government reform of the Cherokee nation and improved business development, health care, environmental problems and cultural heritage.
Dugan has worked as a teacher, superintendent of schools and author. She is on campus as a guest of the Native American Student Association.
