Ambassador Victor Ashe will speak about U.S.-Polish relations at a luncheon sponsored by the University of Tennessee’s Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy, 11:30 a.m., Aug. 14, at the Foundry, on the World’s Fair site.
A Knoxville native, Ashe was elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 1968 at the age of 23. He was elected to the Tennessee State Senate in 1975. From 1985-87, Ambassador Ashe served as executive director of the Americans Outdoors Commission. In 1987, he was elected mayor of Knoxville, a position he held for 16 years. On June 23, 2004, he was sworn in as our nation’s ambassador to Poland.
Two years ago, at a similar Baker Center luncheon, Ashe donated his political papers to the Baker Center’s Modern Political Archives.
