Provost Robert HolubIn its continuing efforts to provide valuable and unbiased information to students, UT Knoxville has revamped the way it suggests lenders to students needing financial assistance.

Provost Robert Holub appointed a Lender Advisory Board, which made the recommended changes. The board was chaired by Richard Bayer, assistant provost for enrollment services, and consisted of faculty, students and staff.

The board requested information from lending institutions and carefully evaluated their responses.

The board then compiled a list of "recommended lenders" based on their commitment to customer service and good borrower benefits. Those lenders are: Access, Bank of America, Chase, Citibank, Edamerica, First Tennessee, Key Bank, Regions, Sallie Mae, SunTrust and Wachovia.

Information on these lenders is posted on the financial aid web site.

Holub said the board’s work "will ensure the appropriate fairness and transparency in the student loan process."
