KNOXVILLE — Internationally renowned landscape architect Elizabeth Meyer will lecture at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, April 14, in the McCarty Auditorium, Room 109, of the Art + Architecture Building at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Free and open to the public, this lecture is part of the Robert B. Church III Memorial Lecture Series organized each semester by the College of Architecture and Design. During its 30-year history, the series has brought some of the most innovative and important thinkers in the world of design to the UT campus.
A nationally recognized scholar and teacher, Meyer is an associate professor of landscape architecture at the University of Virginia, where she has served as landscape architecture department chair and director of the graduate landscape architecture program. She is a fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects and previously has taught at Harvard and Cornell universities.
Meyer’s presentation will focus on sustainable landscape design. She will examine the roles of beauty and aesthetics in sustainability. Meyer argues that landscapes must be designed to provoke people to become more aware of how their actions affect the environment, and to care enough to make changes.
“This lecture is particularly special because our new landscape architecture program begins this fall,” said John McRae, dean of the College of Architecture and Design. “I expect a good crowd and that Meyer’s presentation will get everyone excited for next year.”
This is the last lecture of the spring Robert B. Church III Memorial Lecture Series. The series continues next fall.
