KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee College of Law will honor the memory of the late L. Kirby Matherne by naming its Moot Court Classroom after him in a dedication ceremony on April 18. The naming will be held at 4 p.m. in the rotunda on the second floor of the law school.

Matherne, a 1948 graduate of the UT College of Law, died in 2000 at the age of 80. The Brownsville, Tenn., attorney was appointed to the Western Section of the Tennessee Court of Appeals in 1968 and served as Presiding Judge of the Western Section from 1978 until his retirement in 1982.

Matherne also received the Distinguished Service Award in 1973 from the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association and was awarded Service Awards from the Tennessee Judicial Conference and the Tennessee Young Lawyers Conference.
