KNOXVILLE — Teachers, professors, counselors and coaches can make a huge impact on the lives of their students.
The Educators Hall of Honor in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at the University of Tennessee recognizes professionals in education who have inspired and challenged students.
The college is taking nominations for new Hall of Honor inductees now through March 31. People who would like to nominate a teacher make a donation of $1,000 in the name of the honoree. The donations go toward the Educators Hall of Honor endowment for scholarships.
The inductees will be honored during a ceremony May 14.
The Hall of Honor praises professionals who already have established themselves in the field and helps students who one day will follow in their footsteps.
“The Hall of Honor recognizes the outstanding contributions of professional educators from all across the country. The funds generated from this important program go toward supporting students who are on course to become the future educators of America,” said Bob Rider, dean of the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences.
“Through their generosity, donors are not only bringing attention to the wonderful careers of outstanding educators, but in addition are contributing to the preparation of outstanding educators of the future,” Rider said.
The Educators Hall of Honor was established in 2002. Plaques bearing the names of the teachers are displayed in the Claxton Education Building.
More than 30 educators have been inducted into the hall, including UT President Emeritus Joseph E. Johnson and former UT President, the late Andy Holt. The hall is open to any professional in the United States, and members have come from throughout Tennessee and the nation. Those honored have been teachers from elementary school to the college ranks.
