In a first-of-its-kind partnership between a university and a non-governmental organization, UT’s Institute for a Secure and Sustainable Environment (ISSE) and the Cumberland River Compact (CRC) have been named, collectively, a Center of Excellence for Watershed Management.

The designation from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency means that ISSE and CRC will take on a critical role in restoring and protecting Tennessee’s polluted waterways.

"The Center of Excellence Program is a very nice tool that will allow us and CRC to partner with organizations that have a stake in watershed management and be able to pool resources more effectively to improve Tennessee waters," said ISSE Director Randall W. Gentry.
