UT Students Encouraged to Rock the Vote

KNOXVILLE — For many UT students this year’s presidential election will be their first opportunity to participate in the political process. To encourage students to educate themselves about the candidates and voting, UT presents Rock the Vote Week March 10-12.

The week’s events culminate with stars from MTV’s “Real World” and “Road Rules” hosting their “Rock the Vote” program at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, in the University Center auditorium.

Throughout the three days leading up to the final program, there will be other events and opportunities for students to register to vote.

Students can register to vote all three days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the pedestrian walkway. On Tuesday and Wednesday, students can grab a microphone and “Speak OUT!” on any issue from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. during class changes on the walkway.

There also will be a lecture by associate professor of political science Anthony Nownes about the role of lobbyists in the political process at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the International House.

Rock the Vote Week is sponsored by the Central Program Council (CPC), Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy, Issues Committee, Women’s Coordinating Council, Film Committee, Honors Council, Student Senate, Student Government Association, Department of Political Science, College Republicans and College Democrats.
