Young Alumni to Talk with UT Students about Career Choices

KNOXVILLE — Undecided undergraduate students with an interest in communication and information are invited to hear a diverse panel of College of Communication and Information young alumni and graduate students reflect on their job experiences.

The panel event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Black Cultural Center on the University of Tennessee campus.

The event is free, but registration is required. The first 100 people to register for the panel at http://www.cci.utk.edu/diverse-careers will be treated to a free lunch.

The diverse group of panelists includes professionals in advertising, broadcasting, employee communication, libraries, newspapers and public relations. The panel includes:

* Mónica Colón-Aguirre, a master’s student in the School of Information Sciences. Colón-Aguirre earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, and an MBA from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico.

* Molly Driscoll, an account supervisor at Madison MediaWorks, a lead generation advertising agency in Knoxville. Driscoll, a 2007 graduate, supervises several national accounts.

* Ka’Leia Evans, a staff coordinator for Qwest Communications in Denver. Evans has been involved with a variety of projects at Qwest, including planning and implementing a three-day event for approximately 300 human resources employees.

* Sora Kim, a doctoral candidate in the School of Advertising and Public Relations who has several years of experience as a marketing communication manager. Kim’s work history includes multinational corporations such as Softbank, Saerom Information, IBM and Microsoft in Korea.

* Brandon Long, anchor and managing editor at WMGT-TV in Macon, Ga. Long’s resume also includes WPTY/WLMT-TV in Memphis and WBIR-TV in Knoxville.

* Reginald “Reggie” Murphy, director of research services for Gannett Co. Inc. in McLean, Va. Murphy manages consumer research projects for the Gannett’s 90 daily newspapers and nearly 1,000 nondaily publications and Web sites, with projects focused on strategic plan development for increased readership, circulation and advertising revenue as well as marketing of broadcast, print, online and mobile products and services.
