Members of the campus community,
Dr. Way Kuo, dean of the College of Engineering has announced his resignation, effective at the end of this semester. He has accepted the presidency of the City University of Hong Kong.
Dean Kuo’s contributions to the College of Engineering and to the campus over the past five years have been substantial, and we are thankful for his service. The college has seen significant growth during Dean Kuo’s tenure. At the same time, student quality has increased, with each freshman class surpassing the last in academic excellence. The Min Kao Electrical and Computer Engineering Building is an outstanding addition to the college, and construction is set to begin soon on The Hill.
Dean Kuo’s work has been recognized nationally. In the most recent U.S. News and World Report rankings, the college was named the 34th best public undergraduate engineering college in the country, and the nuclear engineering graduate program was ranked in the top 10.
Having scientists and leaders with Dean Kuo’s international reputation means that, on occasion, high caliber institutions will come calling as they look for leaders. While we hate to see him leave, we wish Way and his family all the best as he moves on to this new leadership role. Please join me in congratulating him on this significant achievement.
