KNOXVILLE — Dr. Katie High became Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Success at The University of Tennessee effective Jan. 1, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Dr. Bob Levy. Levy retired Dec. 31, 2007, after more than 30 years of service to the university.
Dr. Katie HighHigh served as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Success since 2005.
“Katie is both an outstanding leader and longtime member of university administration, which makes her knowledgeable and uniquely well-qualified to serve in this critical role,” UT President John Petersen said. “I appreciate her willingness to take on this responsibility to further serve the university through this transition.”
From 2001 to 2005, High was Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Tennessee at Martin, where she oversaw the admissions and financial aid functions, and all traditional student services including student activities and Greek life.

High received the doctoral degree in higher education administration from The University of Tennessee in 1982, and she has been on university staff in a variety of capacities for more than 25 years. She has formerly served as director of management development, director of licensing, associate senior vice president, and chief of staff to the president. High also was formerly in charge of UT’s Institute for Leadership Development, and at UT Martin she headed up the campus LEAD Academy.
High is a native of Ohio and a graduate of Miami University, where she received bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She taught public school in Knoxville and Clinton for nine years and in 1981, High was awarded a fellowship to pursue the doctorate in higher education administration at UT. As a student there, she was named the College of Education’s outstanding graduate student, and her doctoral research was voted the outstanding dissertation.
She is the current president of the Tennessee State American College Testing (ACT) organization, and has served on the advisory board of First Citizens Bank and the Weakley-Obion County Drug Court. She is past president of the Weakley County Carl Perkins Abuse Prevention Center, the Martin Literary Guild, the Martin Rotary Club, and the Knoxville Metropolitan Drug Commission.
High is a consultant with schools, government agencies and private businesses throughout the country.
She is married to Dr. Reggie High, a retired member of UT educational studies faculty. The couple live in Knoxville and have two sons and three grandchildren.
