English Language Institute

UT’s English Language Institute (ELI) has won a grant for $307,600 from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in the U.S. Department of State to host two groups of students from Latin America this year.

ELI will offer two "Study of the United States Institutes for Student Leaders." A group of 18 students from Brazil will arrive in Knoxville on Jan. 26 and stay until Feb. 29. A group of students from Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela will arrive this summer. During the visit, the students will have classes and field trips to places such as the Tennessee Aquarium, Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Monticello in Charlottesville, Va.

ELI will host a welcome reception for the students at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, in the University Center’s Executive Dining Room. All students, faculty and staff are invited.

ELI is a part of UT’s University Outreach and Continuing Education division. ELI offers programs to students and professionals to help improve their English and teach them about American life.
