Emily Parker Named Director of Parents Association

KNOXVILLE — Emily Parker has been named director of the Parents Association at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Parker, who earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at UT, had been the interim director of the association since May 2006.

The UT Parents Association was founded in 2002 to provide a way for parents to stay involved with their students while at college and to develop their own connection to the university.

Currently, the association has more than 4,300 families who are members.

Parker reports to Tim Rogers, vice chancellor for student affairs.

“Emily’s extraordinary communication skills, breadth of experience and knowledge of university academic and administrative protocol render her a unique and natural choice for the director’s position. I have the highest level of confidence in her abilities and in her dedication to ensuring development of the UT Parents Association,” Rogers said.

Prior to working with the Parents Association, Parker was assistant director of student orientation and leadership development at UT.

Parents Association members receive weekly e-mail updates and three newsletters a year. The association also hosts Family Weekend in the fall and events to recognize student scholarship recipients.

The association supports the Parents & Families Fund, which helps provide scholarships to students on the basis of academics, leadership and service qualifications and for international study.
