KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee’s Community Partnership Center will host an energy fair and public workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 6, to address housing issues in Copperhill, Tenn. The energy fair will begin at 6 p.m. at the Copperhill City Hall. The housing workshop will follow at 6:30 p.m. and continue until about 8:30 p.m.
The energy fair will provide demonstrations and information on improved home energy efficiency and reduced energy costs. Free compact fluorescent light bulbs will be distributed to fair participants.
The housing workshop will address issues identified at an earlier public workshop, including lack of assisted-living facilities, downtown gentrification, the need for a multipurpose community center, housing renovations, local energy upgrades and improved relations between McCaysville, Ga., and Copperhill.
Participant input and feedback from the Nov. 6 workshop will continue to guide creation of a sustainable housing plan for the Copperhill-McCaysville area. Students in UT’s Graduate Planning Program and enrolled in the course “Economic Development and Analysis” will facilitate the workshop.
The project is sponsored by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) as part of the Appalachian Teaching Project (ATP). The ATP was established in 2000 by ARC to engage the region’s colleges and universities in building a sustainable future for Appalachia. This year, 14 institutions from nine states will take part in the project.
