KNOXVILLE — Award-winning journalist and author Bob Woodward will talk about presidential politics and leadership at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, on Oct. 16.
Woodward’s talk at 7:30 p.m. in the University Center Auditorium is free and open to the public. A book signing and reception will be held afterward, and several of his books will be on sale.
He will discuss how different U.S. presidents have reacted in times of crisis and how their administrations have handled classified materials and secrets.
Woodward has worked since 1971 at The Washington Post, which won the 1973 Pulitzer Prize for Woodward’s work with Carl Bernstein to break the Watergate scandal. Woodward was awarded the Gerald R. Ford Prize for Distinguished Reporting on the Presidency in 2003.
He has written several national best-sellers, including “All The President’s Men,” “The Commanders,” “The Agenda: Inside the Clinton White House” and “Shadow: Five Presidents and the Legacy of Watergate.”
Some of Woodward’s latest books have focused on President Bush and the Iraq War. “State of Denial: Bush at War, Part III” was published last year and deals with the White House’s handling of a secret Pentagon assessment on the war.
Woodward’s lecture was planned by the UT Issues Committee in conjunction with the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy, the Central Program Council and WUOT.
