KNOXVILLE — Visiting architect John Ronan will lecture about spatial and material themes in architecture at 5:30 p.m. today in the McCarty Auditorium, Room 109, of the Art + Architecture Building at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. A reception will follow.
Free and open to the public, this lecture is part of the Robert B. Church III Memorial Lecture Series organized each semester by the College of Architecture and Design.
“I don’t know of many other programs in the country that have a line-up of lecturers like we have,” said Katherine Ambroziak, architecture professor and chair of the lecture committee. “We have a lot of great professionals speaking this year, including John Ronan.”
Ronan is principal and lead designer of John Ronan Architect in Chicago. He graduated with a Master of Architecture with distinction from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and is currently an assistant professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology College of Architecture.
Ronan won a competition to build an $84-million high school in Perth Amboy, N.J., and his presentation will focus on the development of that project and the Gary Comer Youth Center project in Chicago.
Continuing architectural education credit can be earned at this lecture.
The Robert B. Church III Memorial Lecture series has brought many regionally, nationally and internationally prominent architects, designers, historians and theorists to the college for the past 33 years.
