KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee’s College of Social Work is hosting a conference for foster, adoptive and kinship parents on Oct. 11.

UT athletics director Mike Hamilton, father of two adopted children, will be the special guest speaker for “Building Teams for Permanence: Fall Conference on Foster Care, Kinship Care and Adoption.”

The conference is planned by the College of Social Work Office of Research and Public Service (SWORPS), which helps improve the quality of human services practice by securing grants, conducting research and providing training for public welfare professionals and volunteers.

The conference gives participants the opportunity to network with other parents and obtain required training hours by attending workshops presented throughout the day.

• Registration, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
• Workshops, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Topics include gangs, stress reduction, life books, relationships, subsidized guardianship, life-skill development and issues on well-being.
