UTPD Advises Caution for Pedestrians, Motorists Near Construction Sites

The University of Tennessee Police Department is reminding pedestrians and motorists to be careful in the many construction zones around campus.

Pedestrians should use designated sidewalks around construction sites and refrain from walking in areas cordoned off by caution tape.

“UTPD has worked hard to keep sidewalks and roads safe around construction, and we are asking students, faculty, staff and visitors to campus to stay alert and walk where they are directed by the caution tape,” UT Police Chief August Washington said.

The following are construction areas affecting traffic and pedestrians:

• Glocker Business Administration Building, at the corner of Andy Holt Avenue and Volunteer Boulevard. The sidewalk is closed around the building. Pedestrians should use the sidewalk in front of Hodges Library and cross Volunteer at the crosswalk in front of Dunford Hall and Stokely Management Center.

• Neyland Stadium, along Phillip Fulmer Way. The sidewalk is closed in sections to allow for painting on the stadium façade.

• Pratt Pavilion, basketball practice facility, along Lake Loudoun Boulevard next to Thompson-Boling Arena. Traffic entering campus should watch for lane closures and construction equipment on the roadway.

• Hess Hall, along Melrose Place. Pedestrians and motorists should watch for workers on scaffolding.

UTPD also warns pedestrians to take care when using a crosswalk, and motorists should approach a crosswalk slowly.

UTPD officers are stationed at busy intersections such as Phillip Fulmer Way and Andy Holt Avenue to direct traffic. Pedestrians also must obey the officers’ directions to remain on the sidewalk until they are allowed to cross the street.

Construction continues on the sidewalk and breezeway to Andy Holt Tower from Circle Park. Pedestrians should walk in the pathways designated.
